How to
write a personals ad...
Here
are a few examples
from the online personal advice
"experts" who have been there and done that
! Also, some do's and
don'ts.
-
Write
honestly and accurately - this includes listing your
real height, weight, body type, education background and
profession (no stretching the truth here).
-
-
Don't
share too much information - just enough to keep them
interested. List things like favorite hobbies,
activities, movies, books, etc. Keep things about work
minimal. Say things like "a nurse at a local
clinic" or "mortician at a funeral home."
You get the gist.
-
-
Don't
fixate on only one aspect of your life. You come off
sounding one-dimensional and obsessed. Write things
people can relate to, such as where you're from, where
you live, or where you're going in life.
-
-
Don't
dwell on problems or limitations. You can talk about
those things later. If you have children, mention them
briefly. People want to know you will have time for
them.
-
-
Think
about what you're looking for, and don't set too many
limitations. It might hinder some great opportunities.
Don't say you're looking for the love of your life and
want to get married.
-
-
Good
words: affectionate, likes to cuddle, interested in a
committed relationship, sensitive, great cook, romantic,
caring, monogamous, down-to-earth, sophisticated, etc.
-
-
Bad
words: well hung, great in bed, I'd love to satisfy you,
sexually insatiable, great lover, erotic, uninhibited,
etc.
-
-
Unless
a person is downright unappealing, remember that amateur
photos hardly do justice to a person.
-
-
Increase
your response rate by ten times by posting a photo. You
can also offer to exchange photos (photos - not porn
here people) by e-mail. Send your best photos. First
impressions are crucial.
The following
is a REAL personal ad which generated several
hundred responses in just a few short months. The writer
is a VERY happy (and busy) individual indeed!!
ABOUT
ME:
"A classic Sag, born in a pig year, I am happy
to be me, and this site IS 'under construction' each and
every day. Happiness is being in the moment, and having
health, peace of mind and love. Breathing is very, very
good, so are flexibility and movement. Joy is found
everywhere...in family, friends, work, and play; snowflakes,
clouds and mountains; bears, birds, trees and flowers;
really fine Belgian truffles and an occasional black lager.
Ecstasy will be connecting and becoming one with you."
ABOUT
YOU:
You understand what I said above, who I am, what I
want. You know who you are and what you want. You set goals
and achieve what you want. You are fit, active, and
intelligent. You enjoy a rewarding & challenging career.
You embrace the dark as well as the light. You feel and
express emotion freely and with sensitivity. You refuse to
carry another's emotional baggage, and yet are empathetic.
You speak honestly and act with integrity. You compromise
only what you do, not who you are. You love yourself and
want to share your wants and needs with a partner.
The light within shines in
your eyes and you are radiant in every way. So am I. Let's
connect."

More advice......
-
Write
a catchy headline. Make it memorable but not
boastful.
-
-
Post
a photo - make it simple. It should be a
picture of how you normally look, so no prom
pictures or Glamour Shots.
-
-
Describe
yourself and the person you're seeking. Focus
on positives about yourself.
-
-
Show,
don't tell! Be creative with your ad and make
it stand out.
-
-
List
uncommon things like intriguing features, most
memorable experiences, what celebrities you
might resemble.
-
-
Keep
it brief and never lie.
-
-
Double-check
grammar and spelling.
-
-
If
you want to achieve similar Internet Dating
success, think about what is important to
you...what you want and who you are. Then
start writing!
|
- When
writing an ad, set the mood. Be relaxed, put
on some nice music, be in a good mood.
- Write
all your thoughts down before posting them.
-
- Show
off your personal style, like a wacky sense of
humor or stream-of-consciousness thinking.
-
- Share
feelings and experiences.
- Try
to communicate these three attributes: sense
of humor, integrity, and self-confidence (but
don't boast).
-
- Include
a photo of yourself - try to find one where
you're alone and in a well-lit area. Nothing
too revealing.
-
- Don't
work on your profile when you're down, don't
over think it, and don't give negative
details.
- Just
listing all the details of your love life is
boring. Spice it up.
